The Yukon Trappers Association and Yukon government are urging Etsy to reconsider its decision, raising concerns about the impact on Indigenous artisans, small businesses, and remote communities.

Doug Chiasson, executive director of the Fur Institute of Canada, also noted that sustainable use of wildlife has long been part of conservation in Northern communities.

As the conversation continues, attention is now turning to Etsy’s response.

On Wednesday April 22, 2026, the Yukon Legislature debated, then passed unanimously, a motion calling on their Minister of Economic Development, Tourism and Culture to write a letter to Etsy, asking them to re-consider their plans to ban fur from their platform.
