I know that’s probably not what you’d expect a realtor to say but……
Trendy finishes.
After years of walking through homes with buyers, I’ve noticed something interesting.
Buyers rarely choose a property because of the tile, the light fixtures, or the colour of the cabinets.
What they remember is how the home feels. ✨
Does it feel bright?
Does it feel warm?
Does it have enough storage for skis, bikes, and gear? 🎿🚲
Can they imagine hosting family after a day on the mountain?
Can they picture themselves enjoying the deck, the view, or the hot tub? 🏔️
The renovations that often create the most value aren’t always the most visible.
Better windows.
Improved insulation.
Thoughtful storage.
Functional mudrooms.
Outdoor living spaces. 🌿
Anything that improves the way people actually live in the home.
Especially in Whistler, buyers are often purchasing a lifestyle first and a property second.
And before spending thousands on the latest design trend, I’d be asking a few important questions:
Will this home work better for me, future rental tenants, and future buyers?
Will this renovation require permits?
Will it improve functionality or simply change the appearance?
Because the most expensive renovation mistake isn’t choosing the wrong tile.
It’s spending money on something that doesn’t improve the home’s long-term value or appeal.
