In Athens: Birth of Democracy, host Anthony Morgan travels to the heart of the city where it all began – standing in the ruins of the Agora, exploring the silver mines that fuelled the system, and watching the first full-scale reconstruction of the ancient lottery machine in over 2,000 years.
As modern democracies face their own strains, the question lingers: what can we learn from the experiment that started it all?
