So Lucy happens to be a certified arabica coffee Q grader, and as a professional "insider," can say that some of the coffees we are drinking and serving in eastern DRC, are among the world's high scoring coffees in the cup.

However, scores and certifications do not capture the entirety of the value of this coffee or the people who pour their dedication, passion, and hearts into what you drink.

Bazima means to be alive. It's a common response in South Kivu to "how are you doing?" and in that response, "we are alive," there is resilience.

And that resilience is what makes it even possible to savor the luxury of Congolese coffee. To produce such a cup despite extremely challenging conditions to produce, process, transport, and prepare it.

We look forward to using our coffee evaluation skills to share with you over the coming months some of our favorite micro lots selected from around South Kivu.

Here’s some coffee from this years harvest in Katana, here in South Kivu we are roasting today. It was just taken out of its parchment yesterday. It doesn’t get fresher than this, and we love tasting these coffees so close to where they were grown.
This is what green coffee looks like. Before we roast we will screen through it once more carefully for defective beans that might have a negative impact on the flavor. Let’s see how it tastes! coffee

We have been tasting some new coffees just harvested from around South Kivu, and some are just amazing. Today we are enjoying a traditionally processed coffee from Katana, just north of Bukavu. Come join us for a cup! Bazima!coffee
