Probiotics may not only be beneficial for humans, explores a recent study.

Coral reefs are rapidly declining due to climate warming. One aspect of climate research focuses on restoring resilience to these biodiverse-rich ecosystems and vital coastal habitats.

A new study published in Microorganisms and mentioned in The Conversation reviews how administering probiotic bacteria to coral reefs could assist in thermal enhancement, making it more resilient to drastic temperature changes.

However, only a small number of studies testing its thermal stability have been done so far. More research is needed to assess the overall efficacy and sustainability of this potentially revolutionary practice, helping to restore vital coral reef ecosystems.
