USI MUN

The 11th of September has to be remembered, as far as USIMUN is concerned, not only as the anniversary of the well-known terrorist attack to the twin towers and to the whole western world.

On the 11th of September 1973 the first legitimate and democratically elected political leader of Latin America Salvador Allende was overthrown by Augusto Pinochet, whose dictatorship, politically backed by the American Government aiming to the establishment of the free market ideology by the so-called ‘Chicago Boys’, could only be established after thousands of murders and tortures perpetrated on the Chilean resistance, the majority of whose exponents was aged between 18 and 23.

Shall the world (and the students, first of all!) always remember that while we express our grief on the 11th of September for the unaware civilians and courageous firemen who lost their life in the twin towers, we should also bear the USA’s responsibility in mind for such an infamous attack against democracy and political self-determination.
