Opening of Roman Rhapsody with Sultan Çoban, Paul Hutzli, margaretha jüngling, Viola Leddi, Gabriel Stöckli, and Eva Zornio at Lateral Roma.
Save the date! Lateral Roma is thrilled to announce Roman Rhapsody, a group show by artists Sultan Çoban, Paul Hutzli, margaretha jüngling, Viola Leddi, Gabriel Stöckli, and Eva Zornio.
Roman Rhapsody is a collective exhibition that emerges from the shared condition of living and working together as residents at the Istituto Svizzero over an extended period. The word “rhapsody” derives from the ancient Greek “to sew” and “song,” and literally means “sewing songs together.” The artists’ proposition could therefore be understood as a free instrumental composition, shaped by the lived experience of Rome and by the collective framework in which their practices temporarily converged. The exhibition runs until Saturday, April 4, 2026.
Under such circumstances, the artistic research of each participating artist unfolded through proximity, exchange, and everyday coexistence, engendering resonances and intersections. From past experiences with Catholicism to the history of dissection of women’s bodies, from performed identity to the role of food in Italian folklore, the presented works embrace heterogeneity without seeking to produce a unified narrative.
Each practice maintains its own rhythm and logic, while remaining open to contamination, friction, and mutual influence. The exhibition thus becomes a field of relations—an environment that allows multiple forms of attention and engagement to exist side by side.
Special thanks to the Istituto Svizzero for their support.
