2026 marks 10 years since the first regulatory approval of SHL Medical’s Molly autoinjector. It also marks over a decade of SHL Advantec delivering the advanced manufacturing solutions that brought Molly to scale.

Long before the first device hit the market, our automation team operated behind the scenes, delivering the foundational engineering that made Molly possible. By developing specialized gauges, fixtures, and force sensors, we provided the technical support essential to Molly’s manufacturability.

Then came the challenge to scale. Bringing the customizable Molly platform to market required unparalleled agility. With numerous product variations – each undergoing multiple design iterations – our ability to rapidly respond and adapt was critical. This flexibility ensured that each and every Molly project was met with an automation solution as adaptable as the device itself.

To date, we have delivered over 400 projects for the various Molly combination products. Ranging from simple fixtures to fully automated systems, our solutions powers production at SHL Medical’s facilities and partner CMO sites worldwide.

Ahead of this year’s World Environment Day, our team headed to the beach for a cleanup initiative organized by SHL Medical Taiwan 🌊🌱

Joining forces as a group of more than 140 colleagues and family members – including many first-time participants – our team worked together to remove approximately 300 kilograms of waste from our local shoreline.

The day was filled with hard work, great energy, and a powerful sense of community. As our colleagues reflected after the cleanup:

💬 “A beach cleanup is a powerful reminder that disposing of waste properly means one less threat to our oceans.”

💬 “Seeing so many children join us and take real, hands-on action to protect the environment was incredibly heartwarming.”

For SHL, the bi-annual beach cleaning and other global activities across our sites are part of our continuous commitment to corporate social responsibility and contributing to the environment. A huge thank you to our parent company for again organizing this initiative, and to every volunteer who gave their time and energy to create a cleaner, more sustainable coastline.

From classroom to commercial manufacturing 📖🏭

SHL Advantec recently had the honor to join SHL Medical Taiwan in welcoming students from Wu-Ling Senior High School’s Electronics and Information Technology program at our Liufu facility. The goal? To give these future innovators a front-row seat to the world of high-precision, medical device design and manufacturing.

The visit kicked off with an introduction to SHL’s core business, followed by a guided tour of the molding area, the fully automated SMART assembly line, and the autoinjector testing laboratory. Heading back to the “classroom”, Chiu from SHL Medical’s Quality Engineering introduced the mechanics of autoinjectors, while Schindler from our Automation Engineering led a session on machine design and its critical role in the pharma and MedTech industries.

To further bridge the gap between theory and real-world applications, we demonstrated core engineering concepts using small machine modules built entirely out of LEGO. This creative approach drew incredible attention, sparking curiosity about how engineering concepts can be scaled up to build life-changing medical devices.

It was an honor to give the aspiring engineers a practical look into how classroom theories operate in practice, while showing them how technical expertise can be used to advance healthcare and help patients on a global scale.

Insights from our partners Früh Verpackungstechnik AG at CDMO Live Europe show that the industry values high continuity – whether in medical device final assembly, labeling, and packaging, or in the device design and manufacturing processes preceding that.

While our team isn’t on the ground in Rotterdam, seeing SHL Medical’s autoinjector and SHL Advantec’s SMART final assembly technology being featured alongside Früh’s integrated packaging solutions highlights the value of an integrated, end-to-end ecosystem.

Congratulations to Früh for a successful exhibition so far. And if you’re on the ground, make sure to stop by Booth S-39 to learn more.

In modern MedTech manufacturing, the most successful launches are often built on dynamic partnerships and technical synergies across the manufacturing ecosystem.

That’s why we are excited to share that our SMART final assembly technology will be featured by Früh Verpackungstechnik AG – one of SHL’s valued Swiss CMO partners – at this year’s CDMO Live Europe this May 19-21 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

For pharma companies navigating complex medical device launches, the continuity between device design, manufacturing, assembly, and even final device assembly can help create a seamless manufacturing foundation that streamlines technical transfers and manufacturing processes.

As the developer of the tooling as well as automated assembly and testing systems for SHL Medical’s autoinjectors, SHL Advantec is proud to collaborate with Früh, a partner who shares this vision of taking a fully integrated approach to their packaging solutions for the pharmaceutical industry.

If you are attending the event, be sure to visit Früh at Booth S-39 to catch a glimpse of SHL’s device and machine platforms and discuss the future of fully integrated autoinjector final assembly, labeling, and packaging.

Functional and final device testing systems built by the pioneers of autoinjectors ⚙️🔬

When SHL Medical began pioneering the modern autoinjector, the global guidelines for testing these combination products also evolved. It became clear that commercializing innovative self-injection devices required an entirely new approach to help ensure reliability and safety for the patient.

To close this gap, SHL’s automation experts developed the MTM manual injection tester (commonly known as JOHO). The goal was to expand the capabilities of commercially available force testers to measure critical, autoinjector-specific features and functions, including injection time, needle extension, and dose accuracy.

What began as an internal requirement soon gained in popularity. Demand from our pharmaceutical customers grew, and the solution ultimately helped set the industry standard for autoinjector testing.

After a decade of market-proven reliability, the MTM has now evolved into a highly versatile platform, serving as the technical base for SHL Advantec’s full range of advanced testing machine solutions. Today, this core architecture powers everything from our manual testers to our modular fully automatic testing machines (FATM) – delivering consistent, repeatable performance across both machine applications and testing programs.
