DOWNTOWN CAIRO ✨

Inspired from Parisian architecture, much of Downtown Cairo feels like it could be in the middle of Paris or elsewhere in Europe.

European architects were used to make over Cairo starting in the 1860s, which is referred to as the start of Egypt‘s belle-époque period.

Time has been cruel to many of Downtown‘s previous majestic buildings, but luckily, these days one can see many of the old buildings being revamped into its former glory again.

Walk around Downtown Cairo and you will find a great mix of architecture, such as Art Deco, Art Nouveau and neo-Islamic architecture.

📍 Downtown Cairo is a great place to be based for exploring the city of Cairo. Here you will find restaurants, shops, coffee shops and bars
📍 You can easily get to Islamic Cairo and Coptic Cairo from Downtown
📍 Uber or Careem works great in Cairo and makes it easy to get around (this way you don’t have to worry about taxi drivers just waiting to rip you off)
📍 For exploring Giza and the pyramids we recommend you to stay a few nights in the Giza area

Yes, Egypt is chaotic and sometimes challenging, the noise is always there and the touts are many.
But even so, with the history, world-class sights, architecture and monuments, Egypt is really fabulous!

We travel independently as always, which also makes it more adventurous, sometimes frustrating but most of all; exciting!
