𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?

It's an initiative launched in 2021 by the WHO to promote the vertical elimination of 𝗛𝗜𝗩, 𝗦𝘆𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀 𝗕 (𝗛𝗕𝗩).

The aim of this initiative is to ensure the availability of quality reproductive health services for young women and adolescent girls, as well as maternal and child health services, with a view to reducing the incidence of these diseases to such a low level that they no longer constitute a threat to public health.

These three diseases have in common: the same transmission routes (sexual and vertical, i.e. from mother to child), they are often clinically asymptomatic with a long latency period, they can cause maternal and infant morbidity and mortality, and they can be screened during the Antenatal Consultation (ANC) and treated to prevent vertical transmission.

Interventions to prevent vertical transmission of HIV, syphilis and HBV are among the most effective and cost-effective public health interventions in terms of maternal and child health, and the most highly recommended. The key challenge is to implement effective screening for all three infections in ANC as early as possible, preferably during the first trimester of pregnancy.

𝗟𝗮 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 é𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗾𝘂’𝗲𝘀𝘁-𝗰𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗰’𝗲𝘀𝘁 ?
C’est une initiative lancée en 2021 par l’OMS qui favorise l’élimination verticale du VIH, de la Syphilis et de l’Hépatite B (VHB).

Cette initiative a pour objectif de garantir la disponibilité de services de qualité en matière de santé reproductive pour les jeunes femmes et les adolescentes ainsi que de santé de la mère et de l’enfant en vue de réduire l’incidence de ces maladies à un niveau si faible qu’elles ne constituent plus une menace pour la santé publique.

Ces trois maladies ont en commun : les mêmes voies de transmission (sexuelle et verticale c’est-à-dire de la mère à l’enfant), elles sont souvent cliniquement asymptomatiques avec une longue période de latence, elles peuvent causer une morbidité et une mortalité maternelle et infantile et elles peuvent être dépistées durant la Consultation Prénatale (CPN) et être traitées pour prévenir la transmission verticale.

Les interventions de prévention de la transmission verticale du VIH, de la syphilis et du VHB sont parmi les interventions de santé publique les plus efficaces et les plus rentables en termes de santé maternelle et infantile et les plus recommandées. L’enjeu majeur est de mettre en place un dépistage efficace des trois infections en CPN, le plutôt possible, de préférence au cours du premier trimestre de grossesse.
