CGIAR Science Week 2025: Transformative Agri-Food Solutions in Focus.
Local Community Development Association (LCDA) recently took part in the Consultative Group on International Agriculture Research (CGIAR) Science week in Nairobi, Kenya. The event brought together global leaders, scientists, and policymakers to tackle urgent challenges in agri-food systems. Among the attendees was LCDA President Mr. Njoka Walter Laye, who underscored the vital role of innovation and collaboration in fostering sustainable agriculture
The week kicked off with inspiring speeches from prominent figures, including former Mauritius President Ameenah Gurib Fakim and Mexico’s former Secretary of Agriculture Víctor Manuel Villalobos Arámbula. They emphasized the necessity for transformative solutions to complex agricultural issues, setting a collaborative tone for the event. The second day spotlighted innovative strategies aimed at enhancing agricultural resilience across Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Key discussions revolved around CGIAR Science Programs, nutrition, sustainable farming, and digital transformation. A special BBC Crowd science event featured insights from CGIAR scientists, igniting conversations on sustainability in agriculture. Plenary sessions on the third day brought together global experts to address pressing challenges related to food, land, and water systems, highlighting their interconnectedness and global impact. The fourth day focused on linking scientific advancements with practical solutions, exploring digital transformation and strategies to scale impactful initiatives. The week concluded with a strong commitment to ongoing collaboration. Leaders reaffirmed their dedication to shared priorities, including food security, economic stability, gender equality, and climate resilience.
According to the LCDA president, CGIAR Science Week 2025 marked a significant step toward transforming agri-food systems, paving the way for impactful innovations and partnerships in the pursuit of a sustainable future.
