⭐⭐Recognizing Verbal Abuse: It's Not Just Arguments

Common forms of verbal abuse that many people don't recognize:
👉Name-calling: Being repeatedly called "stupid," "lazy," "crazy," or even worse.
👉Gaslighting: Making you feel like your memories, feelings, or understanding of events are wrong.
👉Constant criticism: Nothing you do is ever good enough; you are always being told that you are doing something wrong.
👉Blaming and shaming: You're made to feel responsible for their moods, actions, or failures.
👉Threatening language: This doesn't always involve physical threats; it can also include statements like, "If you leave, no one will want you," or "You'll regret this."
👉Silent treatment: Long periods of silence are used as a means to punish or control you.

Verbal abuse often starts small. A joke here. A sarcastic comment there. You might brush it off at first! But slowly, the tone changes. The jokes stop being funny. The criticism gets harsher. You start feeling like you're always walking on eggshells.

Over time, what began as an "argument" becomes a regular pattern. You may find yourself questioning your own memory, doubting your self-worth, or feeling confused about what's real. I've been there. It feels like drowning quietly in a room full of people.

This insight is brought to you as part of the "Woman's Worth Campaign" which is our initiative to shine light on some types of violence in relationships through music and Education. Join us as we continue this important conversation with each new post.
