The 140th International Labour Day: CHRC staff educated on social dialogue and decent work

Yaounde, 30 April 2026

To mark the 140th International Labour Day, the Cameroon Human Rights Commission (CHRC) held an educational talk for its staff at its head office on 30 April 2026.

The meeting, held under the theme _Social dialogue and decent work: factors of peace, national cohesion and economic development of the company_, provided a platform for constructive exchanges between staff members and the institution’s leadership.

The Vice-Chairperson of the CHRC, Dr Raphaël Gana Galega chaired the proceedings. He was assisted by Commissioners Denis Nkwebo, Joseph Constantin Balla, and Souley Mane.

The keynote presentation was delivered by Mr Martin Mimbala, an expert from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MINTSS), who enlightened participants on the challenges of social dialogue and the requirements associated with decent work in the professional environment.

Talking to the staff members, Commissioner Denis Nkwebo, former President of the National Union of Journalists of Cameroon (SNJC), spoke on his trade union experience, he raised awareness of mechanisms for defending workers’ rights and the importance of responsible engagement in promoting social dialogue.

At the close of the discussions, which were characterised by high-quality contributions, the Vice-Chairperson commended the relevance of the issues raised and assured participants that their concerns would be conveyed to the relevant authorities.

This activity was part of the CHRC‘s commitment to promoting and maintaining a working environment that respects human rights based on dialogue, cohesion, and collective responsibility.
