Divergent nasal-temporal changes in DR revealed by UWF full range SS-OCTA！
Research published in explored quadrant-specific alterations in retinal vascular density (VD) in the progression of DR using UWF full range SS-OCTA.
This study showed that, in DM group (diabetic patients without DR), VD of superficial retinal complex (SVC) was significantly increased in the temporal quadrant but decreased in the nasal quadrant compared with normal control. AS disease progressed to DR, the mean VD of SVC exhibited a sharp decrease, suggesting a compensatory mechanism in the temporal region and heightened vulnerability in the nasal region. Meanwhile, VD of deep retinal complex (DVC) within the central macula showed an initial decrease in the DM group followed by a significant increase in the DR group. SVC changes, particularly in the temporal 16–21 mm region, might serving as early predicting biomarker of DR, as well as the divergent nasal-temporal changes.
A 400kHz speed swept source OCTA ( , Medical) was used in this study to visualize high-resolution UWF OCTA images and quantify flow parameters with inbuilt software with high sensitivity, providing insight into the pathogenesis of DR.
