“Botanique Cabinet: Life, Memory and Meaning” Kris Wong solo exhibition

This exhibition juxtaposes preserved plant specimens and botanical art to interrogate the medium’s dual nature: while flowers keep their original organic identity, their rearrangement into structured, functional objects creates a deliberate tension between the living and the inert. This exhibition examines the interplay between organic form and artificial construction, utilizing preserved botanical materials to explore the boundaries of the natural world, revealing plants as biocultural artifacts that link biological diversity with cultural identity and act as material witnesses to personal and collective histories.
Engaging with ideas from ethnobotany and critical plant studies, we invite visitors to reflect on how plants shape and are shaped by human experience, acting as bridges between nature, culture, and meaning. Each specimen and artwork offers a unique perspective on the resilience, loss, and enduring significance of plant life in shaping who we are.
