Homemade lactation cookies
Believed to boost milk supply.
Vegan. Healthy.

Been buying from an expat baker in Shanghai and it was quite expensive as they were homemade as well. 250 yuan fur 12 pieces (ksh. 4,500). Lockdown in Shanghai made me try to make my own as the delivery companies aren’t working.
Total expenditure for homemade. Less than 40 yuan (ksh.750). For the exact same cookies. Saved a lot.

Ingredients: flaxseeds, oat flour (made my own from rolled oats), whole oats, coconut palm sugar, coconut oil, brewers yeast, dark chocolate chips, walnuts, baking soda and sea salt.

Tried baking a sourdough rye bread from scratch, for the first time in my life. This is because I’ve been craving sourdough bread and it’s hard to find here.

In fact I can say it’s impossible to find fresh artisan bread here, just not part of the culture.

Tastes good, but lots to learn about the texture. It has orange zest and molasses. I made my own sourdough starter, fed for five days.

Made with 40% stone-ground dark rye, 20% stone-ground whole-wheat flour, and 40% unbleached bread flour.

It does not have many holes because I think I over-proofed it. The art and science of sourdough bread-making is not easy at all!
