Satellite emergency SOS feature for iPhone 14 models coming later this month

A press release from Apple confirmed that the Satellite Emergency SOS feature for iPhone 14 models will be available in the U.S. and Canada later this month. Apple has not yet provided a specific release date or iOS version required for the feature.
Apple also announced that it will invest $450 million from its Advanced Manufacturing Fund to develop critical infrastructure to support emergency SOS via satellite.
Apple said the investment will provide key enhancements to its satellite network and terrestrial sites in Alaska, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Puerto Rico and Texas to ensure iPhone 14 users can connect to emergency services when off-grid.
Apple says the November iOS 16 software update will provide emergency SOS via satellite. The service will be free for the first two years, suggesting Apple plans to charge for it in the future.
