The Latvian government has confirmed that international top-level sports events are allowed to be held during the monthlong lockdown that was announced earlier this week. The 2021 FIDE Chess.com Grand Swiss Tournament and Women's Grand Swiss will go ahead as planned.

The list of authorized activities includes a total of 30 events, including the Basket Champions League, FIBA Euroleague Women, and the Grand Swiss, but also the “Lindores Abbey Blitz”, held in honour of the 85th anniversary of the birth of the 8th World Champion Mikhail Tal.

The players have already been already informed, and today they will receive an updated Health Protocol outlining the rules and restrictions regarding travel to Latvia, as well as the measures at the playing venue and the hotel. The conditions won't differ much from the ones at the FIDE World Cup held this summer.
