Meet the Bare-Shanked Screech Owl (Megascops clarkii), a species found only in the highlands of Costa Rica and Panama.

Did you know the Bare-Shanked Screech Owl gets its name because its lower legs have absolutely no feathers? In the damp Costa Rican cloud forest, naked legs keep them from getting waterlogged while hunting at night.

Imagine landing, hopping into one of our vans with a fresh coconut, and arriving at this view🤩🌋

We get asked all the time: “Where should we stay to get the best volcano view?”

This hidden gem is easily one of our top picks in La Fortuna. We love coordinating stays here because we know our guests will have that “wow” moment the second they walk in—just like and .bhakoo did.

DM us “STAY” for all the details—we’re happy to help you coordinate the booking and transportation.

We recently spent the morning hiking through Parque Nacional Volcán Arenal, and honestly, it’s a reminder that some spots just never get old.

Walking through the old lava flows is pretty epic. As the team behind Arenal Rides, we’re always out exploring so we can share the best-hidden spots with our travelers.

Tips for when you head out there:

Start Early: If you aren’t starting by 8:00 AM, you’re definitely going to feel the burn.

Don’t skip the Ceiba tree: We spent a good amount of time sitting by this 400-year-old giant. Standing next to something that’s seen that much history is the most grounding part of the whole hike 🌳

Wear real shoes: The Coladas de Lava trail is basically made of sharp, loose volcanic rock. We saw a few people sliding around in lifestyle sneakers—save yourself the trouble and wear something with actual grip🥾
