At the EU4Green training “Microbiology and key operational aspects of WWTPs”, the SmartWaterTwin team was proud to participate as researcher and knowledge-sharers in the field of wastewater treatment and resource recovery 💧♻️
This advanced training highlighted the critical role of building skills and capacities among wastewater treatment plant operators — a key step toward improving effluent quality and protecting water resources across the Western Balkans.
For us, it was especially meaningful to engage with operators, experts, and institutions working on the frontlines of implementation. Strengthening practical knowledge, operational efficiency, and monitoring is essential as the region moves closer to EU environmental standards and embraces a more sustainable, circular approach to water management.
We continue to connect research with real-world application — from wastewater treatment to resource recovery pathways — contributing to the broader green transition in Serbia and beyond.🌍

At the conference “New Business Opportunities in the Bioenergy Sector in Serbia” (Belgrade, March 19, 2026), the SmartWaterTwin team was proud to contribute as researchers working at the intersection of wastewater treatment and biogas production ♻️⚡

Bringing together key stakeholders once again highlighted the power of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and a shared vision for advancing bioenergy in Serbia. It’s inspiring to see the sector evolving — not just technologically, but toward real market opportunities, investments, and sustainable business models.

From biomethane potential to circular economy solutions like digestate valorisation, the discussions made one thing clear: Serbia is aligning with European trends, and we’re actively helping drive that transition.

For us, this wasn’t just another event — it was proof that the sector is maturing and that a strong, connected community is ready to shape its future. Now, the next step is creating a stable framework that unlocks investments and builds a thriving market.

✨🎉We visited the fields, met our fantastic farmers, and collected soil samples that will help us better understand how to improve soil health across Serbia.

With the support of the EU program HE–IMPETUS, this project brings together scientists and farmers in Serbia’s first citizen science initiative focused on soil testing. 💡🤝

Through this collaboration we aim to:
🧪 Check soil fertility and key safety parameters
📚 Train farmers in professional soil sampling
♻️ Explore the safe use of stabilized sewage sludge as an organic fertilizer
🌍 Promote sustainable agriculture and circular economy practices

By participating, farmers gain valuable insights into the condition of their land while contributing to more sustainable fertilization practices and circular economy development in Serbia. 🌍
