✅ Pericytes are surrounded by a basement membrane that hosts contact structures with endothelial cells, allowing constant communication between both cell types. Through this close communication and thanks to a degree of the contractile function displayed by pericytes in certain tissues, they can regulate the capillary diameter.
In addition, pericytes are involved in the creation and remodeling of blood vessels.
