Curacao Rental Homes celebrates World Heritage Day
April 18th, each year, is designated around the world as World Heritage Day. The idea was first conceived by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (COMOS).
World Heritage Day was formally accepted at the UNESCO General Conference in 1983 as a day dedicated to the conservation of World Heritage sites worldwide. This year’s theme is Shared Culture, Shard Heritage and Shared Responsibility.
In December 1997, the inner city of Willemstad was awarded the World Heritage status. The Historic Area is made up of four historic districts, 17th century Punda, 18th century Otrabanda and 19th century Pietermaai and Scharloo. These are separated by the waters of Sint Anna Bay and Waaigat which turned Historic Willemstad into an important port-town in the Caribbean.
Guests staying with us are offered a GRATIS walking tour of the inner city with Marcia. Our aim is to share what past generations have passed onto us. We leave you with a quote from the World Heritage Committee:
