Realtime Enhancing Ltd Tests AI for Spacecraft Using Experience from Underwater Research
Cyprus-based company Realtime Enhancing Ltd announces the start of a series of trials for innovative artificial intelligence models designed for deployment on spacecraft. The new development leverages the team’s unique experience in creating and operating AI systems for autonomous underwater vehicles, which have been successfully used in scientific expeditions.
“We are adapting our proven algorithms for use in space,” comments the project’s lead engineer. “In underwater robotics, autonomy and the ability to quickly respond to environmental changes are critical. Now, we are applying these principles to orbit, where satellites face similar challenges: limited communications, complex conditions, and the need to make decisions instantly.”
During the trials, the company’s specialists are testing the AI’s capabilities in autonomous orientation, image processing, object detection, and real-time analysis of the space environment. This will increase satellite autonomy, reduce reliance on ground control centers, and expand the range of tasks that can be performed—from monitoring space debris to automatic instrument calibration and anomaly detection in data.

On May 14, 2025, China launched the first 12 satellites of the Star Compute project—an orbital network of supercomputers with AI models and laser communications. The project is being developed jointly by the startup ADA Space and Zhejiang Lab. The satellites are equipped with powerful processors, large memory, and the ability to perform complex calculations directly in orbit, solving the problem of limited communication bandwidth.
China plans to deploy a network of up to 2,800 satellites with a computing power of up to 1,000 peta-operations per second. The project is positioned as part of the national strategy and supports the country’s ambitions to achieve global leadership in AI by 2030.
