Is Larnaca Losing Its Soul to Concrete?

Larnaca is changing, and it’s happening fast. Everywhere you look, another "block of flats" is rising. But at what cost?

We are watching our heritage being leveled. Those beautiful old houses, with their wild gardens full of citrus trees, jasmine, and greenery, are being replaced by grey walls and underground parking.

The Reality:

Loss of Shade: Every old tree cut down is a natural air conditioner lost.

Heat Islands: Concrete traps heat, making our summers even more unbearable.

Less Fresh Air: We are trading oxygen-producing gardens for more exhaust fumes.

Development is inevitable, but it doesn't have to be destructive. We need to demand a change in the licensing laws. Every new apartment block should be legally required to:

✅ Allocate a specific percentage of the plot to a functional garden area.
✅ Plant native fruit trees (lemon, orange, pomegranate) to preserve our local "green" identity.
✅ Ensure there is enough soil depth for real trees, not just plastic pots on a balcony.

We want a city that breathes, not just a city that builds. Let’s keep the "green" in Larnaca before it’s all paved over.
