Reminder: Cyprus rent payment rules are changing from 1 July 2026.

With the effective date approaching, businesses, self-employed persons, landlords and tenants should ensure that their rental payment procedures are properly aligned with the new compliance requirements.

The latest official clarification confirms that all rent payments relating to immovable property located in Cyprus must be made through a recognised electronic payment method, regardless of the amount or the type of property use.

Accepted methods include bank transfer, debit or credit card payment, and other recognised electronic payment methods.

This is not simply a change in how rent is paid. For businesses and self-employed persons, non-compliant rent payments may not qualify as tax-deductible, while insufficient documentation or an unclear payment trail may create additional tax and compliance exposure.

Now is the time to review:
✅ existing lease arrangements
✅ rent payment methods
✅ bookkeeping records and supporting documents
✅ internal payment and approval procedures

At IBCCS TAX, we can assist businesses and self-employed persons with reviewing the tax and compliance impact of their rental arrangements, aligning bookkeeping procedures and ensuring that the appropriate supporting documentation is maintained.

Watch the video for a summary of the key changes. Full article: https://ibccs.tax/blog/cyprus-rent-payment-rules-2026/

For globally mobile entrepreneurs, investors, families and business owners, second citizenship can be an important element of long-term planning.

In our latest article, we look at Vanuatu Citizenship by Investment from a tax planning and compliance perspective. We explain why citizenship and tax residency are not the same, and why second citizenship should be assessed together with personal tax residency, international business structuring, banking, source of funds, compliance and family mobility planning.

Vanuatu may offer flexibility and a favourable domestic tax environment, but for international investors, the real value lies in understanding how it fits into a wider, compliant mobility and structuring strategy.
