On February 6, Thailand honors National Muay Thai Day in remembrance of King Sanphet VIII, also known as Phra Chao Suea, the legendary Tiger King 🇹🇭

Ruling during the late Ayutthaya period, he was not only a powerful monarch but also a highly skilled Muay Thai fighter. Famous for disguising himself as a commoner to compete in village bouts, the Tiger King tested his skills against the best fighters of his era, earning respect through combat rather than title.

His passion for Muay Thai went beyond personal glory. He actively promoted the art among soldiers, embedding it into military training and strengthening its role as both a fighting system and a symbol of Thai identity. Under his influence, Muay Thai evolved from battlefield combat into a disciplined martial art rooted in honor, resilience, and national pride.

Today, his legacy lives on in every clinch, elbow, and ritual performed in the ring.
