DAGNIR - What Once Was (Ancestral Cult) DAGNIR is dungeon synth project rooted in atmospheric and mystical soundscapes. Drawing inspiration from ancient traditions, dark folklore, and the echoes of forgotten worlds, Dagnir blends ambient melodies with raw, evocative undertones. Each release is a journey into the depths of the past, a tribute to ancestral heritage and the stories it holds. Step into the shadowed halls of sound and memory. *** Ancestral Cult is a new version of the album Kult Předků, originally released in Czech in late 2022. It’s a dungeon synth/ambient concept album with a pagan theme, telling the story of an initiate who finds himself in the presence of a sorcerer. The sorcerer asks him questions to help him remember his past lives. The initiate must face the darkness of the burial mound, wander through ancient forests and groves, and fight endlessly against the turbulent sea in his quest for a sacred homeland. Ultimately, he sacrifices himself, for his fight is eternal... I decided to release a remastered version of Kult Předků under the title Ancestral Cult, its English equivalent. This version comes without vocals, with numerous improvements to the music itself, and includes poems and verses from Hávamál in the booklet as a small bonus to illustrate the story. The less-accomplished track Ultima Thule was replaced with the energetic track Yggdrasil, and a new track, Odin's Sacrifice, was added to the middle of the album. However, The Ent and the Ent-Wife is an exception; it’s the last and only track with vocals. It serves as my homage to J. R. R. Tolkien, whose work is for me a bottomless well of wisdom and inspiration. #dungeonsynth #ambient #pagan #neoclassical 25/02/2025
