Moje herna v krásném prostoru Limpid Works.

Recently I have found this beautiful chapter by Fred Donaldson in the The Handbook of Humanistic Psychology. It captures the essence of true play so simple in its deep complexity. For everyone who does not have enough capacity to read Fred’s books, this is the introduction to the concept of Original Play… So here I write a few quotes from the text, actually its primarily for me so I can read then again and again :-):
“Inklings of Eternity: On the Human Capacity to Play”
“At each successive level of contest, there is an increase in the number of losers and a consequent narrowing or restricting of those with whom the winner can identify.
[...]
Children, for example, who must defend themselves and must increasingly compartmentalize their lives, are quicker to perceive threat in ambiguous situations and respond as though the threat actually was there. They become highly anxious and hypervigilant, always looking for a meaningful form of self-defense or revenge.
[...]
We have lived on earth as if life is an inevitable contest. But in this act of self-defense, we lose sight of the fact that we abandon living so as to stay alive. Play's sense of love and kindness is truly a radical reconfiguration of how we think about and act in the world, transcending not only the parochial and tactical demand to “take sides” but also the seemingly primal demand for self-defense. The true power of our capacity for play, for example, is not survival of the fittest but rather the actual experience of being alive.
[...]
What makes my playmates so ordinary and special at the same time is that they are willing to come out to play and love rather than retreat in fear and desperation. Their play is enthusiastic and simple. They do the one thing that most of us seek to avoid at all costs—to act wholeheartedly and put our entire bodies into a situation and to refuse numbness and protection in favor of love and immediacy.”
