Lower molar crown preparation - final refinement stage

At this stage, the preparation design is already established, and the focus shifts to refining the finish line, smoothing the shoulder, and eliminating any irregularities that may compromise the fit of the final restoration

My preferred speed for this step is 10,000-100,000 RPM using a red diamond bur with light water and air cooling. Once the preparation is finalized, all sharp angles and surface roughness are carefully polished with a rubber polisher to create a smooth and well-defined preparation geometry

Patient positioning plays a critical role. For mandibular molars, I prefer to slightly raise the chair and ask the patient to lower their chin. By gently rotating the patient’s head to the left or right, it becomes much easier to control not only the occlusal surface reduction, but also the preparation from both the buccal and lingual aspects
