Ein außergewöhnlicher Teppich für Berlin
Ein seltener PETAG-Teppich aus den 1920er/30er Jahren bereichert nun die Sammlung des Museums für Islamische Kunst in Berlin.

Gefertigt im Iran von der renommierten Persische Teppich-Gesellschaft A.G. (PETAG), ist dieser Teppich eine exakte Nachbildung jenes berühmten Stücks, das einst Friedrich Sarre, der erste Direktor des Museums für Islamische Kunst, besaß. Sarres Teppich befindet sich heute im Museum of Islamic Art in Doha.

Der nun erworbene Teppich wurde vermutlich als sogenannter „Vorlagenteppich“ für weitere Produktionen geknüpft und gilt daher als besondere Rarität. Typisch für PETAG-Teppiche sind die drei eingeknüpften Kugeln (Chintamani), ein Zeichen für höchste Qualität, feinste Wolle und natürliche Farbstoffe.

Dieser besondere Erwerb erweitert die Sammlung um ein herausragendes Objekt, macht die große Wertschätzung persischer Knüpfkunst im frühen 20. Jahrhundert sichtbar und knüpft an die außergewöhnliche Expertise der Gründungsväter unseres Museums an.

Der Erwerb wurde durch die Freunde des Museums für Islamische Kunst im Pergamonmuseum e.V. ermöglicht.

An Exceptional Carpet for Berlin
A rare PETAG carpet from the 1920s/30s now enriches the collection of the Museum for Islamic Art in Berlin.

Crafted in Iran by the renowned 'Persische Teppich-Gesellschaft A.G.' (PETAG), this carpet is an exact replica of the famous piece once owned by Friedrich Sarre, the first director of the Museum for Islamic Art. Sarre’s carpet is currently housed at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha.

The newly acquired carpet was likely woven as a so-called "master carpet" - a prototype for subsequent production - and is therefore considered a particular rarity. A characteristic feature of PETAG carpets is the presence of three woven-in spheres (Chintamani), a symbol of the highest quality, the finest wool, and natural dyes.

This exceptional acquisition enriches the collection with an outstanding object, highlights the high esteem in which Persian knotting artistry was held in the early 20th century, and builds upon the extraordinary expertise of the museum’s founding fathers.
