For six days, Stepan [name changed] held out with severe injuries.
Following an attack by Russian guided bombs (KABs) near Vasylivka in the Dnipropetrovsk region, he suffered deep wounds to his left leg, back, and chest. For six days, evacuation was impossible. During this time, life-saving medication could only reach him via small drones.

On the sixth day, he was finally brought to a stabilization point and underwent emergency surgery at a local hospital. However, the local medical capacities were insufficient for his ongoing, complex treatment.

This is where our CADUS team stepped in: Late in the evening of June 29, we took Stepan into our care. We stabilized his critical condition and safely evacuated him to the Mechnikov Hospital in Dnipro, where he is now receiving the specialized care he urgently needs.

Stepan is one of many patients we have transported during our medical evacuations (MedEvacs) in Ukraine. His story is a powerful reminder of how much people suffer every day in this war. And this is exactly why we remain active in Ukraine.
