How can business leaders take action to strengthen democracy?

Thanks to DOer Simon Kaiser for sharing his perspective on the huge challenges to democracy around the world. The surge of disinformation, declining trust, and the rise of populism aren’t just societal risks—they’re business risks too.

But there are actionable steps businesses can take to protect and strengthen democracy:
1️⃣ Seek strength in numbers: Collaborate across industries to share strategies and resources.
2️⃣ Tell the right stories: Communicate the value of democracy to your stakeholders authentically.
3️⃣ Harness the power of movement: Engage your employees and colleagues to champion this mission.

It's on all of us to safeguard democracy and build a future where both societies and businesses can thrive. What role do you see for businesses in this effort?

🌎 As the US heads to the polls, it’s a timely reminder of the deep connection between strong democracies and thriving businesses.

At The DO Summit last month, many of the leaders who joined us voiced this concern: How can we strengthen the business case for democracy in an era of growing polarization and disinformation?

Several studies have shown that democratic values such as transparency, accountability, and fairness are foundational to building sustainable, resilient markets and cultivating innovation.

But we also know that, often, business leaders are reluctant to engage in pro-democracy efforts, fearing backlash that could impact their companies.

That's why we also want to hear from you! How would you make the business case for supporting democracy? What examples have you seen where businesses have done this well? Drop your thoughts in the comments. 👇

What does it really mean to create a new economy? And more importantly—what does that mean for you?

Huge thanks to Pia Hillebrecht for a knowledge sharing session with DOers, diving deep into the transition from our current economic system to a more sustainable future.

We explored:
🌱 Personal shifts and transformations needed for this change
🔄 A powerful framework for understanding system change, including the 2-loop model courtesy of the Institute
⚡ The concept of a paradigm shift and what it takes to spark one

We also took time to reflect on our individual roles in this transition, and how we can work together toward our collective mission of driving real system change.

Exciting times ahead—are you ready to be part of the movement?
