Peer group support, drop in sessions, mindfulness breaks, bring-the-kids days... there are many different initiatives that successfully support people working in prison, people detained in prison or on release from prison. But how do we know which is the right one to start up in our local context? And how will we know whether it's working? This is where HOPE comes in!
This week we kicked off the HOPE project with the huge care of hosts, Penitenciarul Oradea, who shared their experience and welcomed us to their town. Over the next two years, under the coordination of Hoppenbank e.V., we will collate mental health initiatives valued by those working in the system or with lived experience of it, and will go on to map transferable elements making an initiative easier to pick up and implement elsewhere. Then, we will trial new initiatives locally, alongside ways to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of results - all using low resource tools that don't require additional skills to implement.
