I’m about to conclude my first evening in Ukraine. Here is a picture of one of Ukraine’s very effective weapons, a tractor. They have been known to capture many Russian tanks.

The City I am in is relatively safe. Although I have been shown the bomb shelter and told we may have an air raid tonight. If so, we go to the shelter. It can hold 4,000 people and there is one toilet.

It’s 11 pm now in Ternopil and we are under a strict curfew. Anyone in the streets can be in significant trouble. And if you cause problems with the police after 11 pm, you may be sent to assist in the fighting areas, but not necessarily the front line fighting. Also now at 11 pm all lights in the City are mandatorily turned off.

My host, Dima, took me for dinner tonight in the downtown area. It’s absolutely beautiful and must be preserved. Tomorrow, I will share some of those photos.

In the US, we’ve seen plenty of photos of the destroyed cities. But I think it’s also important for us to see the cities that still stand. These cities MUST BE SAVED.

I have been so welcomed here and treated like family. I’m doing my best to speak some phrases in Ukrainian, but I made my host laugh tonight when I tried to say “Thank you” to the cab driver, but I accidentally said “F**k you”. I think he will forgive me for trying my best though.
