Hi there!

This Friday, December 13, we will participate in a discussion set amidst Anastasia Batishcheva’s exhibition “The Only Possible Story.”

The exhibition opened yesterday at the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and will run until January 31, 2025.

It explores the search for the appropriate distance to the past and the intertwined histories of humans and non-humans shaped and produced by the (post-)Soviet legacy.

"The Only Possible Story” is a part of the “Goodbye, Stalin“ publication project, conceptualized by Anastasiia Batishcheva in collaboration with Julia Rybalka and Paul Stadler. You can read more about this on the website: https://goodbyestalin.com/home_en

Our part in the discussion is entitled “The Substance: Care, Maintenance, and Transformation of Species.“ We will delve into the issues of agrobiological care, cultivation, collectivization, and “education” of species. What ideological significance did green mass and the transformation of living substance hold in the communist world? What forms did the “pupils” of agrobiology take then and today, and what kind of non-human resistance can be found among their stories? What tools does contemporary art offer to be open to such politics of species?

We hope for a diverse discussion inspired by "The Only Possible Story," with participation from Anke Hennig, Paul Stadler, Anastasiia Batishcheva, and Julia Rybalka.
