🎁HOW CAN I MAKE THE HOLIDAYS MORE SUSTAINABLE?

We asked Harry Waters, the author of our newest teacher resource book, Activities for a Greener Mindset, to share some ways we can have a greener holiday season.

💡We will post a new idea each day this week to provide you with some inspiration and spark some creativity.

3. Pre-Loved Gifts

৹ Give someone a book you’ve read that you love. Perhaps someone liked a dress you used to wear. That extra convection oven you were given when you moved in isn’t doing any cooking at the moment, nor has it ever left its box.

৹ Giving these gifts not only reduces your impact on the planet, it also saves money and shows people that you’ve really thought about their gift. Rather than jumping online the day before and buying them another picture frame, or cookbook they’ll never look at.

৹ You can also add a nice little handwritten note. It’s not that common anymore!

2. €0 Secret Santa (Classroom Edition)

Rules:
৹ Each student finds or makes a gift costing absolutely nothing.
৹ Encourage creativity: items can be handmade, upcycled, or something they already own but no longer need.

Examples:
৹ A bookmark crafted from recycled materials.
৹ A kind letter or a “coupon” for a helpful act, like “I’ll tidy your desk!”
৹ A small plant cutting or handmade ornament.
৹ A favourite recipe handwritten on decorated paper.
