"I just wish my manager/partner/friend would praise more". External validation as a driver to achieve is not fulfulling, nor sustainable (as you will never do enough to really satisfy this need AND you're much better off giving it to yourself💞).

I was there and I was - like most people - not aware that external validation was a main driver of mine.

You know it is the case for you, if you think more about the judgment of others more than your OWN reasons for performing the task.

Sure, many of us are motivated by the desire to make a difference (the cause), but don't mistake this with trying to feel accepted (aka seeking external validation)...

💪 TAKE YOUR POWER BACK by reminding yourself 𝓌𝒽𝓎 you do the things you do NOW - don't allow others to hold the power to your sense of meaning, contribution and 𝒻𝓁ℴ𝓌.

“I’ll just sprint those 8 light poles”👟. Thoughts on managing a strong internal drive…

Today I went for a run again after taking a break for a few years…

I have been doing competitive sports like badminton, football and long distance running most of my life, but knee injuries put an end to all of it years back.

But I REALLY missed it😘.

I missed the 𝒻𝓁ℴ𝓌 sensation in my body, the 𝒻𝓁ℴ𝓌 of ideas, the 𝒸𝓇ℯ𝒶𝓉𝒾𝓋𝒾𝓉𝓎 emerging.

I replaced it with yoga and strength training, which helped with the injuries. But it did not cover the same needs fully...

Since I left my career in 2017 after struggling with burnout, I’ve learned a lot about emotional management and gentle ways of keeping the body and mind healthy wiythout pushing myself beyond my boundaries.

And eventhough I’ve found wellbeing in my body and mind without pushing it like I did in the past (AKA avoiding injuries and burnout), I really missed the DRIVE 🌬️🌬️ 🌬️.

I guess my conclusion is obvious:
☯️It’s a balancing act

I did NOT sprint those 8 light poles today even though I felt a VERY STRONG urge to do it (supported by what I am sure was 𝚊 𝚜𝚙𝚛𝚒𝚗𝚝 𝚌𝚞𝚎 in 🎶Living on a Prayer🎶 in my 🎧).

I accepted that it was starting over. Listened to my knees. And will do a targeted stretch today and eat anti-inflammatory to take care of my knees.

Cause this Tuesday, I have another run…
