SPATIAL IDENTITY AND THE COGNITIVE MAP

When every street in a town or corridor in a hospital looks the same, the more you look for landmarks to help you find your way. You look for the tree you saw in front of certain red door, the playground you passed where the sound of playing children caught your ear or the special signage in remarkable colours in a typography you thought suited the houses of the area in a magical way. It’s all because spatial identity is a complex matter. We use our senses to their full in order to find our way, wherever we are, and we add layers upon layers to our inner cognitive map.

SAY HELLO TO OUR NEW EMPLOYEES

We are happy to announce that we have added two highly skilled employees to the Triagonal team.

Our new project manager, Marianne, holds a B. Eng. in Integrated Design from University of Southern Denmark (SDU). In her work with project management at Triagonal she will draw on her many years of experience working as design engineer, project manager and with marketing in the industries of furniture design, interior design and ventilation products. Her role will be to manage the project work, while having the overall customer contact.

Peter is our new designer and he holds a Ma. degree in design from the Royal Danish Academy. Peter is specialised in design, art direction and concept development for wayfinding and architectural projects. He has a broad experience from the festival and cultural business fields, designing identities and campaigns, for both analogue and digital platforms and spaces.

MIDTTRAFIK - ROUTE MAPS FOR BUSES.

At the beginning of 2021, Triagonal was asked to create a new series of route maps for Midttrafik, the regional transport authority in Central Jutland. The design is based on the same visual information design Triagonal created for Aarhus Light Rail and Midttrafik in 2016-2017.

The design continues the characteristic visual identity and brand from Midttrafik, including diagonally angled illustrations of the routes. As the dissemination of information in a simple and easy-to-understand way was a key priority, the level of detail on the maps varies according to the number of routes and information displayed on each map. In addition, a number of regional landmarks have been added to the maps using bespoke iconography to help orient users.

The maps will be displayed in bus stop and online from the summer of 2021.
