El análisis toma como base el año 2024 y proyecta el crecimiento hacia la próxima década, a partir de datos relevados de 150 proyectos mineros en toda la región, esta publicación analiza la relación entre la industria minera y el sector eléctrico en América Latina y el Caribe, proyectando el crecimiento de la demanda eléctrica del sector hacia el año 2034. Ofrece un diagnóstico sobre el rol de la minería a gran escala como motor de modernización e infraestructura.

Did you know that by 2034 the electricity demand of the mining sector in the region could increase by 62%?

This is one of the main conclusions of our Technical Note No. 17.

The analysis takes 2024 as its baseline and projects growth over the next decade, based on data collected from 150 mining projects across the region. This publication examines the relationship between the mining industry and the power sector in Latin America and the Caribbean, projecting the growth of electricity demand in the sector through 2034. It also provides a diagnosis of the role of large-scale mining as a driver of modernization and infrastructure development.

En las Jornadas Bursátiles 2026, realizadas en Bolivia, Medardo Cadena, Asesor del Secretario Ejecutivo de OLACDE, participó en el panel sobre movilización de capital para la transición energética, destacando el rol estratégico de los mercados financieros para viabilizar proyectos energéticos sostenibles en América Latina y el Caribe.

Su intervención puso el foco en la necesidad de articular energía y finanzas para transformar los desafíos de la transición en oportunidades de inversión de largo plazo.

His intervention emphasized the need to better connect energy and finance in order to transform the challenges of the transition into long‑term investment opportunities.
