One of the most interesting parts of our work is meeting people from very different fields and seeing how innovation is approached beyond our own industry.

Last week, we welcomed a team from ENEFIT, who have developed a microdegree programme in cooperation with the University of Tartu. One of the subjects in the programme is synergistic innovation, and as part of broadening their perspective, they wanted to take a closer look at another organisation’s innovation management journey.

SRC Group CEO Hannes Lilp and Innovation Manager Alex Vainokivi shared how SRC approaches innovation strategy across the organisation, and how we develop products that respond to real customer needs and create a meaningful impact in the maritime sector.

Following Type Approval from RINA for SRC Group’s Methanol Superstorage, we spoke with Innovation Manager Alex Vainokivi about the engineering realities behind methanol adoption, why retrofit projects remain one of shipping’s biggest decarbonisation challenges, and how fuel transition is beginning to reshape vessel design itself.
