Movida

Our MODINA project is ending this month. The project has fulfilled its objectives of expanding the creative possibilities for contemporary dance performances, and augmenting the experience for the audience, using digital technology, with an emphasis on exploring artificial intelligence (AI) and audience interaction.

During the 3 years of MODINA, 10 new choreographies involving AI and/or technology-mediated audience interaction were created, across 10 artistic residencies of 2 months: https://modina.eu/category/projects/ These were created by 20 artists selected from 2 calls, with applications submitted by 364 artists in total.

These new choreographies resulted in 42 performances across 5 countries, attended by 2385 audience members. The choreographies also gained a life of their own, with many of these being presented widely, beyond MODINA.

In addition to performances, we also organised 10 artist talks and 10 seminars on the topics of MODINA, gathering a total audience of 913 persons.

We have published 6 articles on the outcomes of MODINA, presented in major conferences for movement and digital creativity, available as open access, with more articles on their way: https://modina.eu/publications/

We have made available 6 software systems, free to download and open-source, with online demos accessible: https://modina.eu/category/software/

We also organised a final MODINA event in January, gathering all 20 participating artists and project partners, including activities such as a project exhibition and final symposium: https://modina.eu/news/modina-showcases-2025-tanzhaus-nrw-de/

Our project and its activities have attracted substantial attention on social media, through our channels and those of our partners: a reach of 780.058 views and 12.791 engagements (and counting...). They have also attracted attention in traditional media, including national TV and press channels of countries involved.

We have kindly been invited by the EU to present MODINA and discuss the impacts of AI in dance in different activities, such as the EU Cluster Meeting on AI for the Culture and Creative Sectors (Brussels, June 2025).

Although MODINA is ending this month, our new three-year project on dance and technology is starting next month: MOVIDA https://movida.dance Our MODINA Instagram, Facebook and mailing list will carry on to the new project (their names will change soon).

MODINA Showings 2025-26 Del dine videoer med venner, familie og verden

The videos from the 2 MODINA Seminars of 2026 are now available on our YouTube. There are 5 videos, a total of 9 hours of documentation. The seminars were composed of artist presentations, discussions and theoretical presentations. They were organised by TLÜ digitehnoloogiate instituut / School of Digital Technologies / Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava (EE) and MIREVI - Mixed Reality and Visualization (DE). Participants include mostly MODINA artists, but also academic partners and invited experts. The seminars were also streamed online.
