eu-LISA is the EU Agency for the Operational Management of Large-Scale IT Systems - The Digital Heart of Schengen

🟦 The eu-LISA Management Board congratulated eu-LISA, Member States, the European Commission, and EU Agencies on the entry into operation of the new and associated interoperability components on 12 June 2026. For the first time, a major EU information system was launched together with key interoperability components — ESP, CIR and the shared Biometric Matching Service (sBMS).

🟦 Meeting in Tallinn on 17–18 June 2026, Members reviewed progress across the Agency's portfolio of large-scale IT systems, including , , , and , as well as developments in justice-related systems.

🟦 Discussions also covered governance, business continuity, audit activities and other strategic priorities supporting the delivery of secure and reliable digital solutions for the European Union.

🟧 On 12 June 2026, the new entered into operation, leveraging the shared Biometric Matching Service (sBMS) and key components of the EU interoperability architecture, including the European Search Portal (ESP) and the Common Identity Repository (CIR).

🟧 This marks an important milestone in the implementation of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum and the wider interoperability framework.

🟧 The launch was carried out in close cooperation between eu-LISA, Member States, associated countries and the European Commission, with national systems connecting to the new Eurodac throughout the day.

🟧 The new system introduces enhanced biometric capabilities, including facial images, as well as a redesigned architecture that strengthens support for asylum and migration management across Europe.

💬 "The entry into operation of the new Eurodac demonstrates our shared commitment to delivering secure, reliable and modern digital solutions that support national authorities in carrying out their tasks. It also showcases eu-LISA's growing capability to deliver complex large-scale systems using modern software engineering practices and increased in-house expertise," said Tillmann Keber, Executive Director of eu-LISA.

🟧 Built through eu-LISA's Software Factory approach, the new Eurodac is one of the first large-scale EU IT systems delivered using Agile and DevSecOps methodologies combined with increased in-house expertise.

🟦 The Eurodac Advisory Group met in Tallinn and online on 8–9 June to review the final state of readiness ahead of the Entry into Operation of the new on 12 June 2026.

🟦 Representatives of Member States, associated countries, the European Commission and eu-LISA assessed the progress achieved across Europe and reviewed the remaining technical, operational and organisational activities ahead of launch.

🟦 The new is a completely redesigned EU information system that will support the implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum and future interoperability among EU large-scale IT systems.

🟦 With launch now only days away, preparations have entered their final stage for one of the European Union's largest information systems in the field of migration and asylum.
