how to recognize the difference between genuine and faux leather

Absorbs water in only a few seconds
very regular and similar pores and might have scratches and creases
It smells natural and musty ( like animal skin ), and it has rough edges
Exposing it to fire 5-10 sec. Will only char slightly and smell a bit like burnt hair

faux leather
water will puddle up on top
It smells plastic or chemical
Exposing it to the fire 5-10 sec. will catch flame, and smells like burning plastic
Faux leather made from plastic has no strands, and edges are cleanly cut
Is more rigid and regular, and will usually be difficult to bend
