My first meeting in Cairo was an absolute delight!
Today I had the joy of sitting down with Mayada Maged, managing partner of Staff Arabia, an HR services company here in Cairo that provides payroll, outsourcing, and a whole range of integrated solutions for businesses across the region.
I first met Mayada last fall when I taught a workshop at the AUC Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, but today was the first time we actually got to sit down and chat about the amazing company she and her team are building.
Over tea and snacks, we talked about how business can and should be a force for good. We both believe that how you treat your people matters, and that the communities in which we live and work deserve better because we showed up in them.
We also talked about the power of exposure... how being in a room with the right people opens doors that may be hard to come by otherwise, and how face to face still matters, especially in an era where AI and big tech make personal connection even more important.
That conversation led us naturally into what I’m building in October... and perhaps the most validating and exciting part of our conversation was the reminder that for an experience like this to really work, every woman in that room needs to feel a sense of ownership over it.
This is exactly why I came to Cairo this week.
To co-create this experience in a way that is deeply meaningful for every woman who joins us!
Thank you to everyone at Staff Arabia for the warm welcome.

Every retreat promises transformation, but Built to Last Egypt is built on something different.
For the last few years I’ve been building intentional relationships with Egyptian women entrepreneurs, women building businesses, leading communities, and reshaping what’s possible on their own terms.
This commitment runs deeper than a single workshop or cultural exchange.
Three of our five tour operators are women-owned Egyptian businesses.
The women we’ll sit with aren’t guests on our itinerary; they’re equals at our table, with hard-won wisdom shaped by environments very different from our own.
Egyptian women aren’t a feature of this retreat. They are part of its foundation.
That’s what makes Built to Last different from every other Egypt retreat you’ll find.
2 spots remain. Enrollment closes soon.
