Comparison Between Fibroid Myomectomy Surgery and Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)
π΄ In the first image, we see the surgical approach for fibroid myomectomy
πΉ A large surgical incision is made in the skin, followed by cuts in the underlying fat and muscle layers until the uterus is reached and the fibroid is exposed.
πΉ After the procedure, all these layers are sutured back together, and the wound requires a long healing process.
β³ Recovery takes about 5 weeks, with pain at the surgical site and a higher risk of post-surgical infections.
π’ In the second image, we see uterine fibroid embolization (UFE)
β
No surgical incision β No stitches β No pain from a large wound
β
The entry point is just a small arterial puncture in the thigh or hand π©Έ, similar to a simple blood sample.
β
Through this tiny puncture, we insert a very thin tube, like a straw π₯€, and navigate it under X-ray guidance until we reach the artery supplying the fibroid, where we proceed with embolization.
π― The major advantage is that patients can return to their normal life very quickly, as there is no long recovery time or severe pain after the procedure.
π Additionally, there is a much lower risk of infection compared to surgery.
β¨ Uterine fibroid embolization is a safe and effective alternative without surgery or prolonged recovery time.
