š”Ever heard about Project-based learning? Apparently, this has become one of the best methods in teaching and learning. In IB (International Baccalaureate), this is often exercised and applied.
Project-based learning (PBL) is a student-centered learning method that involves students in learning by doing. Students are presented with a problem or challenge and then work in teams to find a solution. In IB, often, students explore and discover the challenges themselves with a minimal guidance from their teacher.
PBL is an effective way to teach students because it allows them to apply their knowledge and skills to real-world problems. It also helps students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
Here are some tips on how to apply PBL in your classroom:
1. Empower and guide students to choose a project that is relevant to their lives and their surroundings (community/personal interests)
Students are more engaged in learning when they are working on a project that they are interested in. In IBās term, itās about studentsā agency- their voice and choice in learning.
2. Make sure the project is challenging but achievable. You can ensure this takes place through further guidance.
Students need to be challenged in order to learn, but they also need to be able to complete the project successfully.
3. Provide students with the resources they need to complete the project.
This includes access to books, articles, websites, and other materials. In this part (IB context), they will be able to develop their research skills while also considering the importance of academic honesty.
4. Give students realistic time to work on the project. Guide them to use appropriate approaches/ methods based on their needs/styles.
Students need time to research, plan, and complete their projects. In IB, it will be more of differentiation- through approaches to learning/teaching
5. Encourage students to collaborate with each other.
Collaboration is an important part of PBL. Students need to be able to work together to solve problems and complete projects. In IB, itās about exercising two of the Approaches to Learning (Social and Communication skills)
6. Provide students with feedback on their work.
Feedback helps students to improve their work and take further actions to improve areas for development through their teachersā guidance. On this case, assessment plays a vital part.
7. Celebrate students' successes.
When students complete a project, it is important to celebrate their success. This will motivate them to continue learning. Success doesnāt have to be tangible or something to be pinned on a classroom wall. It can be the mini words like āgreat, amazing, youāre awesome!ā These minis are actually BIG!
Overall, PBL is an effective way to teach students because it allows them to apply their knowledge and skills to real-world problems.

The ability to say no without saying no is a valuable skill that can help you to avoid conflict, build relationships, save time, and improve productivity when collaborating with teams. Here are some ways to say no without saying no:
* "I'm not sure if I'm the best person to help with that. Can I connect you with someone who might be able to help?"
* "I'm happy to help, but I'm not sure when I'll be able to get to it. Can we set a deadline?"
* "I'm not sure if I have the expertise to help with that. Can I recommend someone who might be able to help?"
* "I'm happy to help, but I'm not sure how much time I can commit to it. Can we discuss how much time I can realistically contribute?"
* "I'm not sure if I'm the best person to help with that. Can I suggest some other people who might be able to help?"
When you use these phrases in certain situations, you can avoid saying no directly, which can sometimes be seen as a rejection. This can help to avoid conflict and build relationships. It can also save time and improve productivity by allowing you to focus on the tasks that are most important.
