Announces the
Professional Masters in Gender and Development degree
Academic Year 2018/2019

This Degree:
• Equips you with knowledge that is both tailored for understanding and working in development in both Egypt and internationally
• provides you with marketable skills in development practice, rigorous social sciences and policy formulation
• offers work experience in the form of a term long internship
Duration and Structure
The program is an innovative two-year degree, the first applied MA in Gender and Development practice to be offered at a public university in Egypt. The program is a four semester program, in the first two courses will be given in the faculty of Economics and Political Science. In the Third students will have two courses and an internship and the last (fourth semester will be devoted to the graduation project). Students will spend the third semester in an organization of their choice under the guided supervision of and with assistance from the course convener in order to understand and analyze organizations and their work from a gender sensitive lens. The fourth and last semester will focus on the graduation project.
Students who did not graduate from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science are required to take extra exams in Economics, Political Science and Statistics in the first semester with a pass grade of 65%. The exams will after a series of lectures in the first semester.
All lectures are from 5:30 to 8:30 pm, in the first semester 3 times per week, in the second semester 4 times per week and in the third semester 2 times per week.

Courses offered
Students take seven core courses and have the freedom to choose two elective courses. The core courses are : Introduction to Gender and Development Theory 1 and 2 , Gender and development practice 1 and 2 , Professional and academic skills ,Research methods 1 and . The elective option includes : Gender, development and conflict, Gender politics and development, Gender and inequality, Gender and sustainable development, Gender and economics, Feminist political theories, Gender, civil society and social movements.

Language
All courses are offered in English and Arabic, and the readings are also in both languages, and hence the proficiency in both is required
Entry Requirements
-An undergraduate degree from any university with a minimum average of pass
-The minimum acceptable level of English language competence is
Score Exam
6 or above IELTS BAND SCORE

Documents to be submitted
• Four photos
• Official transcript of birth certificate
• Official transcript of undergraduate degree.
• Copy of National ID
• Personal statement stating: why do you want to join this masters, what you want to get out of it (specific fields or interests) and what are your ambitions in the next five years (500 words).
• Military exertion
• Statement that you are currently and until the end of the program not enrolled in another postgraduate program
• Copy of the English language competence certification
• Registration Fees ( around 250 )

Important Dates:
Registration for the program will start on the first of August till the 29 of August 2018, Please hand in a folder that includes all the above mentioned required documents to MRS AMAL GOMAA( [email protected]) in of postgraduate office Faculty of Economics and Political Science (ground floor),Cairo University.

Please note that you will only be accepted after the academic committee of the program reviews all applications. You will be notified by email and phone about your acceptance and the fees of the first semester. The Treasury is open from Sunday to Wednesday 9-12 AM
