🚗🇪🇸 Could Traffic Fines in Spain Soon Depend on Your Income?

A proposal currently being discussed in Spain could change the way traffic fines are applied.

DGT Director Pere Navarro has expressed support "in principle" for a system where traffic fines would be adjusted according to a driver's earnings.

Under this proposal:

💶 Higher-income drivers could pay significantly higher fines
📉 Lower-income drivers could receive reduced penalties
⚖️ The same offence could result in different fines depending on income

Some reports suggest that a €300 fine could increase to €750, €1,200, or even €1,800 for higher earners.

❗ However, it is important to note that this is NOT currently law.

Pere Navarro has also acknowledged that implementing such a system would be very complex, particularly because it could require access to income and tax records.

For now, traffic fines in Spain remain exactly the same. Nevertheless, this proposal reflects ongoing discussions about making traffic enforcement more effective and proportional.
