The anniversary date of the Merchant Marine of Chile is based on the delivery of the first patent granted navigation, the June 26, 1818, to the ship "Gertrudis de la Fortuna", belonging to the Shipowner Don Francisco Ramirez. At the same time he founded the Steamship Company of Calcutta, whose ships joined the Chilean coast with India and China in the Far East, carrying our pavilion and opening to the world.
