Discover how German cosmetics entrepreneur Hans Peter Schwarzkopf has converted an abandoned 16th-century quarry in Pollença into a unique winery.

The quarry in question was already used for wine production and today it has been converted into something of a laboratory focused on the recovery of native grape varieties.

"In the valley of Pollença, at the foot of the Serra de Tramontana, stands Can Axartell, a 200-hectare estate that is recorded in the Distribution Book of King James I, when he conquered Mallorca in 1229. Wine had already been produced on these lands since the 16th century, although for several centuries a quarry replaced the wine-growing project.

In the middle of the last century, the quarry fell into disuse and the area became significantly degraded. Until the well-known German entrepreneur Hans-Peter Schwarzkopf decided to restore it "to maintain respect for the original landscape, the centuries-old olive trees [...]".
